Red Magic 5G review: All the specs but none of the magic

A gaming phone with a crazy price and lots of little problems



There’s a soft spot in my heart for last year’s Red Magic 3S. As a phone, it was disappointing, but its stock software and gaming performance had me sold as a secondary device for folks big into mobile gaming. The new Red Magic 5G is harder for me to recommend, though. While its price is crazy — delivering a Snapdragon 865 and (limited) 5G connectivity for just $580 — the Red Magic 5G’s frankly terrible software makes it frustrating to use and difficult to recommend.
